Aged 2, Orion is by the black Danaway Taranis out of Danaway Moya, from Rick Cross in Cumbria. Smartly presented, with an attentive eye, fine nose and plenty of attitude. A foodie with a boyish, blunt manner.
With saturated black pigmented fleece, dark as night, he has promising horns. Orion's hard to find in the field after dusk, but he does come when called which helps. Had a bad habit of butting knees, but as more rams have arrived he's maybe grown in confidence and relaxed a tad. UPDATE: husband nearly had a torn ACL, never turn your back on a ram. Orion no longer lives in big Chase's shadow, but he's not keen on tall men wearing large coats!
Orion is solid black and carries the recessive brown gene through his maternal line, meaning he could potentially throw brown, black or white offspring. At shearing he's blue-black, but as the summer and autumn progresses, he breaks out in tints of grey and brown as his fleece fades in the light.
Orion has a neat frame - tidy, square, relatively light of leg. In profile he has a very slight Roman nose. His expression is kind, unless he's pulling his "devil's eyes" glare, and he has a barky shout when he hears the gate rattle. He's a smart cookie, quick to negotiate his place at the feed trough.
He carries plenty of black through his sire line. The colour genetics of his French dam line are not recorded in the UK, so he's currently being test bred for colour genetics.
